the protagonists of world cinema’s excellence, during the ShoWest in
Las Vegas last March 10-13th.
The annual convention brings together the operators of today’s
international cinema and took place at the Theatre Des Artes of the
hotel de Paris in Las Vegas this year. If its public enthusiastically
welcomed all the most exciting novelties of American cinema, they
reserved an ecstatic reception for George Lucas. The great director and
producer presented a new chapter in the mythical Star Wars saga: a
cartoon, Clone Wars, which will be released in the USA next August
15th.
Lucas’s entrance, announced by Warner Brothers’ president, Alan Horn,
was especially appreciated by the public, who honoured him with a
standing ovation. The director was escorted by six startroopers in
their fabulous white uniforms.
The animated TV series – which includes all the same characters as in
the movie Clone Wars – will air in the USA next fall in weekly
episodes, after which Lucas will once again start working on a TV show
“in flesh and blood”. When he’ll be through with the latter as well, in
a few years’ time his plan is to dedicate himself, in the same way as
Francis Ford Coppola with Youth Without Youth, to all those movies he’d
wanted to make in his youth, but couldn’t – being in some way a
prisoner of Star Wars for thirty years.
